Searching for a Battle of Britain veteran PDF Print E-mail

The importance of the Battle of Britain is remembered once again this month, and we were reminded of our photoshoot at Biggin Hill beside one of the few remaining wooden dispersal huts, made so famous in the films about that time, that accommodated aircrew waiting to scramble their Hurricanes and Spitfires to  meet the Luftwaffe above the skies of Kent and London in 1940.

We have heard of a successful search for a RAF veteran via our Beckenham Junior Choir website, unrelated? Not necessarily!

Also there has been quite a bit of related activity on the BBC website for the Today programme, you can see lots of excellent coverage here:
(this also shows how we can contain content within our website designs so that readers don't need to leave a site to see another...)

BBC Today Programme covers the Battle of Britain 19th August

Local Beckenham writer and historian Cliff Watkins writes:

To mark the 70th anniversary, of the Battle of Britain this year, during the ITN London Tonight news, (regional television news for the Southeast) included a feature which will had veteran RAF pilots sharing their memories of the conflict.

Among them was Wing Commander Peter Ayerst, the Beckenham resident whose career was celebrated at the Beckenham's Famous 2008 concert at Christ Church (that the Beckenham Junior Choir performed in)

ITV (a guy called George) contacted me on Monday 5th July for Peter Ayerst's contact details. I asked where ITV had got my name from and George mentioned the Beckenham Junior Choir (website) had referred them to me.

When I expressed surprise, he told me that he had looked at the BJC
website where he had read that the choir had performed in the concert.

Best wishes,
Cliff.

BFIn 2008 an article was added to the BJC Website about the concert Celebrating Beckenham's famous. Amongst those mentioned,  the RAF Veteran Peter Ayerst mentioned above.

Our website for the choir has a series of articles archived and available to view, and of course the site is designed with search-engines in mind to clearly present all the information on the website.

How nice to see a Google web search resulting in a continuation of remembrance of those who served in the Battle of Britain.

9th July,
